Product Development Director


The Client:

An English heritage label and Royal Warrant holder with a very loyal following.

The Brief:

This was a new position to develop and expand the clothing and accessories offer for this 200-year-old English heritage brand.  The challenge was that whilst they wanted to diversify the product mix, they didn’t want to alienate the customers on whom they had built their reputation. It was vital therefore to find an individual who really empathised with the brand philosophy whilst bringing the right mixture of creative vision and commercial acumen.

The Search:

The search parameters were quite narrow as candidates needed to have a thorough understanding of the entire product process from conception to sign off and delivery and be able to facilitate the critical steps in achieving this through raw materials, colours, patterns and samples. However, their experience had to be strictly within luxury outerwear and/or accessories.

The client met the initial shortlisted candidates and after a long period of interviewing decided none of them was quite right for the role. We met with the client again and talked through the role and their  expectations. This meeting widened the potential areas to search and helped both parties revaluate exactly what was needed.

The Placement:

From this second search, a stand-out candidate appeared in the interview process. He had worked at the required market level for a number of luxury houses and had a very broad position overseeing product development, merchandising and brand management. He demonstrated a natural synergy with the label and also an in-depth knowledge and love of British luxury manufacture and fabric.

This passion for the brand ensured an enthusiastic acceptance of the client’s offer and his appointment as Product Development Director had an immediate and positive impact on the team, the product range and the customers.
